Presentation by Malcolm Learmonth on the Waiting Room Walks - an Insider Art project as part of a King’s Fund ‘Enhancing the Healing Environment’ programme carried out at The Briars, Home of the Creative Therapies Team of Devon Partnership NHS trust. Creating a waiting area for clients using a mental heath service that felt as comfortable and anxiety relieving as possible, and gave good messages about safety and care. A digital photo screen shows a ‘menu’ of mostly local walks, giving details of lengths, starting points, easiness level, and access. These are also keyed to a local map, accompanied by information about the mental health benefits of walking in natural environments (‘ecotherapy’) and details of local ‘walking for health’ groups. The project is an art work, a contribution to a healthier healing environment, and an exercise in health promotion. (Download Presentation)
